[RPGaDay 2017] Day 1: What Published RPG Do You Wish You Were Playing Right Now?

Soooo.... It's August, and time for RPGaDay. Yes, this is the first year I'm even starting the daily questions. I need to write something right now, and it helps to have some structure to hang content on. So let's away!

For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about and are too lazy to consult the Oracle of Google, Autocratik has a post about it. The graphic with all the questions will be at the bottom of this post, and you can follow along with the hashtags #RPGaDay and #RPGaDay2017.

As for today's question, I have several answers.

I really want to get Blades in the Dark onto the table for a test spin. Having a Victorian Steampunk system that handles heists by PC bands of ne'er-do-wells appeals to me viscerally. The art and feeling of the setting has me gearing up for a long siege. It'll be a tough row to hoe, but we'll come out smelling like roses, just before we give in to our vices and retire.

On a nostalgic note, I'd love to revisit my youth, forget everything I think I know about role-playing, and start fresh with Moldvay B/X Dungeons & Dragons. We'd clean out the Caves of Chaos and talk ourselves into being indispensable at the Keep on the Borderlands before being whisked away to the Isle of Dread at level 4. Maybe I'd be able to keep the AD&D influences at bay and just play B/X straight for a while. I'd savor it and find its limitations before unleashing the onslaught of choices.

And now the floodgates have opened, and all the desires come rushing out. Cyberpunk, Birthright, Classic Traveller, Gamma World, Call of Cthulhu, Psi World, Mage, or whatever. I want in. I want to play. I want to spin worlds out of gossamer thought-threads and weave stories out of nothing but words. I want to lose myself in the act of pure creation with friends around a table.

That's the magic of RPGs. That's why I play, and that's why I want to keep playing.

Until tomorrow, then.
