Forest Blade |
This short, sturdy blade of ancient design looks like a cross between a short sword and a machete. Forged primarily as a forestry tool and secondarily as a slashing weapon, the blade's enchantments provide boons to anyone operating in wilderness environments.
You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. Once attuned, add your proficiency bonus to Survival rolls to forage food, gather firewood, build shelters, follow tracks, blaze trails, and navigate the wilderness. If you are already proficient with or have expertise in Survival, simply add your proficiency bonus again.
On your mental command, the blade controls the temperature and attempts to repel precipitation, fog, wind, and insects in a 10 foot radius centered on the blade. The temperature becomes comfortable if the ambient temperature is between -40 and 160 degrees Fahrenheit (-40 to 70 Centigrade). Everyone in the radius receives advantage on saving throws to resist insect-, weather-, and wind-related spell effects such as gust of wind, insect plague, sleet storm, etc., but not more direct elemental damage spells like call lightning or lightning bolt. Insects attacking anyone in the radius suffer disadvantage on their attack rolls.
Elves have made and enchanted these blades since before the Razing of the Plains, four thousand years ago. Most have been handed down in elven families, though a fair number of these blades ended up in human and dwarven hands.
NOTE: The blade's advantages against weather, wind, and insects will cause some mental overhead as GMs decide if it applies to a particular spell, but I love a solid theme and went with it. And yes, the repulsion effect is basically a bastardized version of the Leomund's tiny hut spell.
