So I've been re-releasing a few old projects on my itch store. I want everything I've made in one place, and I've settled on itch as my publishing home for now.
NanoRegent
First up, NanoRegent (originally mentioned over here) strives to create a more free-form domain management game. Players take on the role of nations on an international stage. The nations ebb and flow, conflicting and cooperating, mostly through creating and using Aspects to fuel or resist changes as directed by Edicts made by each country. Actions resolve through a roll of 4 Fate Dice, with the victor being able to narrate the results. The game ends by mutual agreement when the story seems to have run its course.
It's not for everyone, since all of the creative burden falls on the players rather than the system, but I'm excited to see if this resonates with the more adventurous groups out there.
Provenance
Earlier today I published Provenance (originally mentioned over here), which seeks to pay homage to a particular episode of an old TV series called Lovejoy, starring Ian McShane. (Looks like there's a Lovejoy revival in the works, too.) Lovejoy is a roguish antiques dealer, and in my memory of the episode in question, he starts with one pound, buys a piece of junk with it, and spends the day trading with all his fellow dealers to end up with thousands of pounds in cash at the end of the day to buy his way out of trouble. Provenance takes a slightly different tack, letting players certify (or reject) each other's fabricated histories of junk items, finally selling everything off once everyone weighs in on all of that day's items.
It's only 200 words long, so I didn't have the space for much explanation nor examples. Once again, there's no provided creative direction for what to make up, other than the 6 descriptors in play for that particular game. It requires some creative players to make up a fun story for each object, and more cooperation than competition to reinforce the fun of making up stories.
Other Projects
Other older games include Domo, which needs some serious rework to keep resources from accumulating too quickly. I'll probably get the Tao Of Gaming up sooner rather than later, and maybe I'll write more than the first 9 verses of the Tao after that. I'm not sure I'm in the right headspace to tackle that right now, but its on my list. I've also got a mostly-complete issue of Bolthaven Folios ready to go. I just need to put some of the updated credits and icons in the layout, provided I can find the files to edit.
I'm going for a catalog of games on itch, and I think a dozen titles makes a decent start. Everything is Pay What You Will right now, but I'm probably going to start enforcing actual prices at some point fairly soon. So if you're interested in downloading something I made, now would be a great time to do that.
What About Physical Products?
I've got an inactive storefront set up for my notebooks, which I'll rework to handle games. Heck, I might dust off the notebook business and keep them available, too. I don't know when that's coming, but it's coming.
Right now, I'm focused on the goal of publishing 6 products this year. If I count the older projects, I'll be done by July. But I want new creations, so the tally remains at 2 for now.
And I just noticed I screwed up the date on the cover image of both products. Gah. Gotta go fix that.
Anyway, please enjoy, and stay tuned for more gaming goodness.
