An Okulari "ates bombasi". |
You have studied the art of throwing rocks and grenades with accuracy, allowing your missiles to hit more often and with devastating effect. You gain the following benefits:
- Increase your Strength or Dexterity score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
- You are proficient with improvised thrown weapons such as rocks, bottles, vials, and flasks.
- Improvised thrown weapons (such as acid, alchemist's fire, and holy water) gain a long range of 60 feet if they do not already specify a long range.
- Attacking at long range doesn't impose disadvantage on your ranged attack rolls made with thrown weapons with which you have proficiency.
- When you score a critical hit with an improvised thrown weapon, roll one additional die when determining the extra damage the target takes. This includes the damage from a grenade's payload (such as acid, alchemist's fire, and holy water).
Designer's Note: Since 5E lacks an official feat that covers thrown weapons and none of the homebrew options I found felt right to me, I needed something to make Apothic Carrie an absolute terror with alchemist's fire. So here's my take on a thrown weapon feat. I mashed up aspects from Piercer, Sharpshooter, and Tavern Brawler feats in the 2014 rules. It might sit slightly on the overpowered side, but most of its benefits only work with improvised thrown weapons, so I think it works. Feel free to pen a sternly-worded comment to me if you feel otherwise. Alternatively you could go make your own rules that work for your game.
Designer's Historical Note: Decades ago, I played a homebrew AD&D alchemist character (called a Bandarin Mage) who had all of his spells encapsulated into alchemical concoctions in vials stored in bandoliers crisscrossing his chest. He worshipped Ptok, the Tiny God of Throwing Little Bitty Things at Much Bigger Things and Hoping They Hit. Ptok obviously threw this idea into my head, but it took some time to truly take root and bloom. In Ptok's name, Lob On.
