Potions - Bottle of Plenty (Promptober 2025 #3)

A bottle in the wild.

Ever wonder how so many healing potions end up randomly laying around in dungeons? This handy little item might explain that phenomenon. Read on, and you'll be hoarding empty potion bottles in case any of them spontaneously refill.

Bottle of Plenty
Wondrous item, rare
This normal-looking transparent crystal vial is designed to hold a potion. A ceramic stopper lined with red cork seals the bottle tightly, attached by a multi-piece metal cage set into holes in the glass that flips open and closed with the flick of a thumb. It resists dropping and crushing damage, and the bottle and stopper both radiate conjuration magic.

By placing a drop of liquid inside and sealing the bottle with the stopper, the bottle duplicates the liquid until it completely fills the bottle. This process varies in length, taking 8 hours for a mundane liquid like water, oil, or whiskey, or 24 hours for magical liquids. The bottle will duplicate a potion of up to uncommon rarity from a single drop.

Bolthaven Folio #2 Is Available

On DriveThru and Itch.
Yes, I actually finished and released another zine! I wanted to get one published per quarter, and I squeaked this one out at the tail end of September. But I did it, art and everything.

Bolthaven Folio #2: Bard Bands (available at DriveThru and Itch) provides guidelines to let your bard characters collaborate and allow anyone with Performance training to help make their magic more powerful. If you really want to go crazy, you can run an all-bard campaign where your PCs can compose and rehearse Singles and play for a minute or more to make some epic musical magic.

All this magic happens in the same 4-page digest format of other Bolthaven Folio titles, so don't expect a fully-developed treatise on the nature of bardic magic or anything. It lays out a system and leaves plenty of interpretation room, especially with multiple bards blending and joining spells through writing Singles. If you want to power up your bard characters, give this one a read.

Grenadier (5E Feat)

An example of an Okulari "ates bombasi" fire grenade, made from clay designed to shatter on impact.
An Okulari "ates bombasi".

You have studied the art of throwing rocks and grenades with accuracy, allowing your missiles to hit more often and with devastating effect. You gain the following benefits:

  • Increase your Strength or Dexterity score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
  • You are proficient with improvised thrown weapons such as rocks, bottles, vials, and flasks.
  • Improvised thrown weapons (such as acid, alchemist's fire, and holy water) gain a long range of 60 feet if they do not already specify a long range.
  • Attacking at long range doesn't impose disadvantage on your ranged attack rolls made with thrown weapons with which you have proficiency.
  • When you score a critical hit with an improvised thrown weapon, roll one additional die when determining the extra damage the target takes. This includes the damage from a grenade's payload (such as acid, alchemist's fire, and holy water).
