Potions - Bottle of Plenty (Promptober 2025 #3)

A bottle in the wild.

Ever wonder how so many healing potions end up randomly laying around in dungeons? This handy little item might explain that phenomenon. Read on, and you'll be hoarding empty potion bottles in case any of them spontaneously refill.

Bottle of Plenty
Wondrous item, rare
This normal-looking transparent crystal vial is designed to hold a potion. A ceramic stopper lined with red cork seals the bottle tightly, attached by a multi-piece metal cage set into holes in the glass that flips open and closed with the flick of a thumb. It resists dropping and crushing damage, and the bottle and stopper both radiate conjuration magic.

By placing a drop of liquid inside and sealing the bottle with the stopper, the bottle duplicates the liquid until it completely fills the bottle. This process varies in length, taking 8 hours for a mundane liquid like water, oil, or whiskey, or 24 hours for magical liquids. The bottle will duplicate a potion of up to uncommon rarity from a single drop.

If used with a healing potion, the drinker can leave a drop of the potion in the bottle by electing to forego 1 hit point of healing, allowing the bottle to reconstitute the potion over the next 24 hours. Potions of higher rarity will look and taste the same, but will confer no magical benefits when drunk.

A legendary version of the bottle of plenty is rumored to exist. It reconstitutes a drop of any potion into the full potion. A full potion can be sacrificed to seed the bottle of plenty a maximum of 10 times before its magic becomes too dilute to reconstitute effectively.

For those vain mortals who wish to live forever, the legendary bottle of plenty and a potion of longevity effectively become their fountain of youth. A kind vampire could use the bottle to regrow three vials of human blood per day to limit the need for feeding on live humans. This bottle works well as a mythical quest item desired by any number of wealthy patrons.

Part of the Promtober project for 2025.
I'll also use this as an item in Fellport, so it's listed in the Fellport Almanac as well.
