Two systems of switchbacks thread their way down Fellport's many levels, allowing access for carts and pedestrians alike. Stout walls enclose the switchbacks to prevent runaway carts from causing too much damage, but a simple turn or two around the wall allows access to the current level. The Liftwardens' Guild and the Town Guard share security responsibilities on Cliffside Ramp, and the College's Constabulary (commonly called "Caps" from their uniform) share jurisdiction with these two groups on levels 9-11 of the Lakeside Ramp where it runs through the three levels of campus.
The Ramps were build at the same time as the Lift, and they cause no less wonder for engineers due to their size and durability. These three structures together give the impression of a center stripe flanked by two zig-zag lines running up the height of the city from the harbor to the walls far above.
